Kenya and Sudan seek to speed up "slow" Jeddah talks

Kenya and Sudan, in their joint pursuit to expedite the progress of the Jeddah talks, witnessed a meeting between Sudanese military ruler Lt Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Kenya's President William Ruto in Nairobi.

Initially hesitant to engage in mediation by President Ruto, Gen Burhan eventually embraced the opportunity to discuss the ongoing conflict in Sudan. The Kenyan presidency reported that the leaders engaged in bilateral talks, addressing the recent security situation in Sudan and the broader region.

Furthermore, they assessed the status of various peace initiatives, encompassing both the Jeddah talks and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (Igad) peace processes.

Ruto and Gen Burhan jointly advocated for an expeditious advancement of the seemingly sluggish Jeddah talks, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive dialogue framework facilitated through Igad. This collaborative effort signals a commitment to fostering stability and peace in the region. #Kenya #Sudan
