The United States is set to restart its provision of food aid to people across Ethiopia starting next month.

This decision comes after a previous suspension of assistance earlier this year, which was prompted by the introduction of comprehensive reforms. The announcement was made by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

Over the past years, Ethiopia has faced an increasingly severe food crisis due to ongoing conflict in the Tigray region and the Horn of Africa experiencing its most severe drought in many decades.

According to a statement from USAID, the resumption of aid will be implemented nationwide for a trial period of one year. Throughout this period, continuous monitoring and evaluation will take place to assess the effectiveness of the reforms implemented by USAID, its implementing partners, and the Ethiopian government.
