Gas Explosion Kills At Least 31 in China BBQ Restaurant - Sparks Review of Restaurant Safety
One of the deadliest blasts in China for years happened in northern China's Ningxia region. Nine people have been arrested in connection with a gas leak at the two-storey eatery based in Yinchuan.
Several students and pensioners were reportedly killed, seven people are still receiving treatment for burns and cuts.
President Xi has called for a safety overhaul ahead of the Dragon Boat festival, with BBQ restaurants proving extremely popular after Covid restrictions were lifted and the joints hyped by influencers.
The blast happened during peak hours and has been put down to a gas canister used for barbecuing.
