In Nakapiripirit district, tragedy struck as suspected cattle rustlers from the Pokot community engaged in a violent confrontation with two Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) soldiers, resulting in the soldiers' untimely deaths. The incident unfolded during an attempt to recover stolen cattle at 8 pm within the Pian Upe Game Reserve, specifically around Molunyangai Hill.

In a triple ambush on the soldiers hailing from the 51st Infantry Battalion, Lt. John Ojur Ssentongo and an unnamed fellow soldier tragically lost their lives while dutifully fulfilling their mission.
