Police in Rukungiri district have arrested a 30-year-old man for killing his own wife and defiling his daughter.[AT]
The suspect, Ramadhan Tumwebonire, is alleged to have strangled his 27-year-old wife, Emily Kyarikunda, on Thursday evening after she confronted him about defiling their 13-year-old daughter.
It is alleged that Tumwebonire had carnal knowledge of his daughter, a pupil at Centenary Primary School, when her mother had sent her to cut banana leaves.
After the act, Tumwebonire is alleged to have ordered his daughter not to tell anyone. However, she told her mother when she returned home.
The mother confronted Tumwebonire, who is said to have strangled her to death. He then fled the scene.
A neighbour, Paddy Ashaba, found the body and alerted the police. Tumwebonire was later arrested and is currently in custody.
He has been charged with murder and aggravated defilement.
The body of the victim was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III for a post-mortem, while the daughter was taken to Rukungiri Police Health Centre III for examination.
