IS-allied rebel group commander charged with murder of honeymooning tourists in Uganda

Kyoto Abdul Rashid, a commander affiliated with an Islamic State-allied rebel group known as the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), faced charges on Monday related to a series of nine offenses.

Among these charges, Rashid was accused of orchestrating the murder of a honeymooning couple, David and Celia Barlow, along with their Ugandan aide Eric Ayai, in Uganda's Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The charges assert that Rashid, with premeditation, caused the deaths of the victims, and he was further implicated in acts of violence aimed at influencing the government or instilling fear in the public.

Notably, Rashid's apprehension occurred in a recent night-time military operation, resulting in the killing of six other rebels.

The developments shed light on the ongoing security challenges faced by Uganda in combating extremist elements.
