Leaders from Italy, the Netherlands, and the European Commission announced a memorandum signed with Tunisia after a visit to the North African country aimed at stemming the tide of migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea.
It was the delegation’s second visit, a month after a previous visit had pledged around $1.1 billion in financial aid to Tunis to prop up the economy and improve policing of its borders.
EC President Ursula von der Leyen wouldn’t specify the amount pledged this time but said $112 million would be given to boost anti-smuggling initiatives.
