Three individuals identified as Irene Akurut, Moses Kataasa, and Wilber Magero have been apprehended by law enforcement officials in the Kiira region for their alleged involvement in the death of their fellow fishmonger, known only as Rogers.
The trio, along with Rogers, all residents of Kisiima II island in the southern division of Jinja city, reportedly purchased 30 pieces of fish from the Kisiima landing site on Friday afternoon. However, Rogers purportedly sold four pieces of fish without informing Akurut, Kataasa, and Magero, sparking anger among the group.
In a fit of rage, Kataasa and Magero allegedly assaulted Rogers, resulting in his death. Subsequently, they reportedly attempted to stage Rogers' death as a suicide by hanging, tying his body with a rope in his house.
A concerned resident, speaking anonymously, alerted the authorities after witnessing the suspicious events unfold. Upon investigation, law enforcement officers discovered discrepancies at the crime scene, including the positioning of Rogers' body, leading them to suspect foul play.
Kiira Regional Police spokesperson James Mubi disclosed that the suspects were apprehended while attempting to flee the island. Additionally, efforts are underway to locate Rogers' relatives, as they are not known in the area.
The deceased's body has been transferred to Jinja Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination as the investigation continues.
