Government Warns Ugandans Against New COVID-19

Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng is warning vulnerable Ugandans about the returning COVID-19 variant. She says they should keep following safety measures.

President Yoweri Museveni declared his wife, Janet, free from COVID-19 after she tested positive on Christmas Day. A week later, Janet tested negative on January 1, 2024.

Dr. Aceng reminds everyone that COVID-19 is still a concern, even though the World Health Organization ended the emergency. She explains that new variants, like the stealth variant, can make testing results seem negative, even if someone is infected.

Dr. Aceng emphasizes that the way samples are collected, the depth of swabbing, and the time of infection affect positivity rates.

In places like the State House, where social distancing and masking are in place, the biggest risk is touching infected surfaces. Dr. Aceng recommends disinfecting tables, door handles, chairs, and doors to stay safe.
