Jinja police have launched new investigations into the killing of a man during Umeme operation. Fresh investigations are underway regarding the death of 18-year-old Bob Bamuturambire. He was shot and wounded during an operation led by power distributor Umeme to combat illegal power connections. The incident took place in Kalimu Cell, Southern Division in Jinja city.
An autopsy report indicated that Bamuturambire's fatal injuries resulted from a bullet that caused damage to his intestinal region, leading to organ failure. He passed away due to these injuries. The conflict began when residents opposed the disconnection operation.
Initially, police claimed that Bamuturambire was hit by a stray bullet as he attempted to seize a firearm from the field force unit (FFU) officers who were supporting Umeme's team. However, both family members and residents contested this account, stating that he was struck while outside his kiosk in the area. They provided evidence of bullet marks on their homes, suggesting that live rounds were fired dangerously.
Bamuturambire's aunt, Juliet Nekesa, demanded justice for the family, describing him as a hardworking and promising young man. The police spox, James Mubi, announced a comprehensive fresh investigation focusing on potential manslaughter charges against the involved officers.
The police officer implicated in the shooting sustained severe injuries and is receiving treatment. Once stabilized, he will provide his statement.
How can a person alleged to be in attempt of seizing a gun from FFU personnel be hit with a stray bullet and not an aimed bullet??? The FfU personnel who was was in possession of an operating gun, that fired a but that killed a resident is again the one who who sustained serious injuries ... Eeeeeeeeeeeh,
