Over a dozen individuals lost their lives during an attack on a gold quarry in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Unidentified armed group members carried out the attack during the night.
The incident occurred on Monday at the Shaba mining quarry, which is privately owned and situated in Aru territory.
The quarry is located close to the Ugandan border within the Ituri province. Alongside the deaths, nine individuals sustained severe injuries, and the attackers also held a number of people hostage to facilitate the transportation of looted gold and other items.
