Museveni gives Kyabazinga 100 Cows as Wedding gift


President Museveni has gifted the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, and his queen, Jovia Mutesi, with a gift of 100 cows in celebration of their wedding ceremony on November 18, 2023.

Speaking during a luncheon in honor of the royal couple at State House Entebbe, President Museveni expressed his joy at welcoming the queen of Busoga into their family, highlighting Mutesi's professional background as a financial analyst and accountant. He emphasized the cultural tradition of bringing gifts when a child gets married, stating, "Among the Banyankore, when a child gets a wife, you don’t just come with empty hands...So, I will give them 100 cows."

In a statement shared on his social media platform, Mr. Museveni congratulated Gabula on finding a life partner, expressing his happiness that the king now had a companion. He thanked Gabula for introducing his wife to the community and for his respect for elders. Additionally, he presented 20 cows as a gesture of gratitude to Mutesi's family.

The wedding, held at Christ’s Cathedra in Bugembe, marked a significant event in Busoga, being the first royal wedding in 67 years. Among the attendees were prominent figures such as Vice President Jessica Alupo, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mr. 

Thomas Tayebwa, Minister for East African Community Affairs Rebecca Kadaga, and former Vice Presidents Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi and Specioza Kazibwe, along with President Museveni's son and daughter-in-law, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Charlotte Kainerugaba.
