Woman Set on fire in Mityana Over Missing Pig

In the tranquil setting of Namuzikiza Village, Watuba Parish, Kikandwa Subcounty in Mityana District, a disturbing incident shattered the peace on April 28th, leaving the community reeling in shock and disbelief.

The victim, Kolodina Muhirwe, a 29-year-old bar attendant and local resident, endured horrifying brutality allegedly at the hands of her ex-husband, James Lukiiko, and several accomplices.

The sequence of events leading to this appalling act unveils a grim reality of domestic strife and misguided vigilantism.

Muhirwe's distressing ordeal began when she entered her ex-husband's property to gather food from her abandoned gardens and banana plantation.

This decision proved fatal, as Lukiiko, along with his son Brian Lwabye and aided by James Kalanzi, the local defense officer, confronted her with accusations of theft.

In a chilling demonstration of mob mentality, Muhirwe was bound and subjected to relentless interrogation in front of a crowd, including Betty Namusoke, who reportedly contributed a rope to restrain her.

The interrogation swiftly escalated into a frenzy of violence, with the mob resorting to burning the defenseless woman alive, allegedly in pursuit of information about a missing pig.

This horrifying spectacle unfolded at the residence of the area Chairperson, Steven Kiwanuka, intensifying the shock and horror experienced by witnesses.

Despite the brutality, Muhirwe's resilience endured, as a compassionate motorcyclist rescued and transported her to safety.

The appalling incident, captured on amateur cameras and widely circulated on social media, has provoked widespread outrage and condemnation.

Following the incident, authorities swiftly intervened, apprehending seven suspects, including George Kiwanuka, James Lukiiko, George Kezimbira, Brian Lwabye, and Betty Namusoke.

Wamala Region Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala reiterated the police's commitment to justice and accountability for acts of torture.

Meanwhile, Muhirwe is receiving medical attention at Namayumba Health Centre IV, as she grapples with the physical and psychological scars of her traumatic experience.

As investigations continue, the events of April 28th serve as a stark reminder of the fragility of human decency and the urgent need to combat impunity in all its manifestations.

In a society governed by the rule of law, such atrocities demand unequivocal condemnation and swift, decisive action to uphold the rights and dignity of all citizens.
