Kenya's opposition figures have voiced their dismay at a statement made by the US ambassador, Meg Whitman, regarding Kenya's status as the most stable democracy in Africa.
During a recent address to Kenyan leaders, including President William Ruto, Whitman's comment was criticized for being out of touch with the current situation.
Opposition senator Oburu Odinga, who is also the brother of opposition leader Raila Odinga, expressed hurt over the remarks, highlighting the government's restrictions on citizens' rights to protest and gather.
The opposition leaders have expressed concern that Whitman's comments might have a negative impact on the ongoing negotiations between the Azimio la Umoja opposition coalition and the ruling coalition Kenya Kwanza.
