Former South African leader Zuma seen at prison, released due to remission procedure.

Former South African President Jacob Zuma

Former South African President Jacob Zuma showed up at the Estcourt correctional facility on Friday morning and was set free through a remission process, as confirmed by a senior prisons official.

This development follows the constitutional court's recent dismissal of an attempt to reverse a lower court's ruling, which stated that Zuma's release on medical parole was illegal. Consequently, he was required to return to prison and complete his 15-month sentence.

Zuma, aged 81, had been imprisoned for refusing to comply with a court order to engage in a corruption investigation involving high-level corruption that occurred during his nine-year presidential term. #SouthAfrica
