Fighting erupted in southern Tripoli on Monday, leading to the suspension of flights at the city's main airport.
The conflict ensued after a prominent leader of an armed faction was reportedly captured by a rival group. Gunfire has been heard for hours, causing concern for residents' safety.
Mahmoud Hamza, who controls a significant portion of Tripoli through the 444 brigade, was apprehended by the Special Deterrence Force at Mitiga airport.
As a result, all flights to and from the airport were redirected to Misrata, about 180km away. The Ambulance and Emergency Service of Tripoli is working to create a safe passage for civilians to leave the clash-affected area.
