Deadly ADF Terrorists Cross Into Uganda

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has issued a stern warning to the public in light of reports indicating infiltration by ADF (Allied Democratic Forces) terrorists into the country.

Speaking at a press briefing held on Monday at the Media Centre in Kampala, Deputy Defence Spokesperson Col Deo Akiiki highlighted the imminent threat posed by these infiltrators and urged heightened vigilance among citizens.

“Our Joint Intelligence Forces have confirmed that another group, which we have been monitoring closely, has recently entered the country with malicious intent,” Akiiki stated.

The alert follows recent intelligence indicating the infiltration of ADF elements, suspected to be acting under the leadership or guidance of known ADF commanders.

These individuals are believed to be carrying out orders from Tanzanian-born ADF bomb expert, Abu Waqas, signaling a resurgence of terrorist activities within Uganda.

Akiiki cautioned the public, stating, “ADF harbors intentions of unleashing terror groups in Uganda, particularly in urban areas, places of worship, schools, and public gatherings, to sow chaos.”

The urgency of the situation is compounded by past incidents of ADF violence, including attacks on tourists, schools, and civilians, resulting in tragic loss of life and destruction.

Despite concerted efforts by UPDF and FARDC (Armed Forces of the DRC) under Operation Shujaa, and strategic airstrikes targeting ADF bases in eastern DRC, the threat persists.

Col Deo Akiiki stressed the necessity for cooperation and vigilance from all citizens, urging them to promptly report any suspicious individuals or activities to the authorities. He cautioned that ADF terrorists might be plotting attacks in urban areas, places of worship, schools, and public gatherings, posing a direct threat to the safety and security of Ugandans.

In response to the heightened threat level, UPDF has activated security measures and increased surveillance across the country. Joint operations with sister security agencies are ongoing to counter infiltration and prevent potential terrorist acts.

Moreover, intelligence-sharing initiatives with counterparts in the DRC aim to address the broader regional security challenges posed by ADF.

In conclusion, Col Deo Akiiki reassured the public of UPDF’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding the nation against terrorism. He urged unity, resilience, and collective action, emphasizing that citizen cooperation is paramount in thwarting terrorist activities and preserving peace and stability in Uganda.
