Kabale businesswoman found hanging dead, body rotting in hotel room


The police in Kabale district are currently investigating the mysterious death of a 30-year-old businesswoman, Ahimbisibwe Grace, whose decomposing body was discovered in a hotel room.

The case was reported to the police by 56-year-old Kadugara Fred, a local businessman residing in Makanga cell, Butobere ward, central division Kabale Municipality. Kadugara informed authorities that Grace, who operated a bar next to his motor spare shop, had been missing since January 20, 2024.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police spokesman, Kadugara reported the disappearance to Kabale Police station on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at around 5 PM. A casefile of disappearance was subsequently registered under reference: 35/30/01/2024.

Upon receiving the information, Police detectives from the homicide desk, led by D/AIP Mugabe Derrick and the regional and district soco officers, proceeded to investigate the matter. The trail led them to Agaba Motel building, where Grace was reportedly residing in room 40.

Upon reaching the room, officers encountered a foul smell and found the door locked and intact. They had to forcefully break the door and discovered Grace's decomposing body hanging with a piece of cloth around her neck. Documents found in the room identified her as Ahimbisibwe Grace.

The scene of the crime was documented, photographs were taken, and Grace's body was transported to Kabale regional referral mortuary pending a postmortem examination. Police suspect suicide, but investigations are ongoing to determine the true cause of death.

The police are working to unravel the circumstances surrounding Grace's death and are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. The community is left in shock as they await the outcome of the investigation into this tragic incident.
