UK's Sunak to learn fate of Rwandan migrant deportation plan

The fate of the UK's plan to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda will be determined on Wednesday, as the UK Supreme Court announces its verdict on the legality of the scheme.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is eagerly awaiting the decision, hoping to overturn a previous ruling that deemed the plan unlawful because Rwanda was not considered a safe third country.

This deportation scheme holds significant importance for Sunak's immigration policy, particularly as he prepares for an upcoming election next year.

Concerns over the influx of asylum seekers arriving in small boats on Britain's shores have prompted Sunak to focus on the Rwanda plan.

In 2021, over 27,000 individuals arrived without permission, following a record-breaking 45,755 detections in 2022.
