Controversy Erupts Over Plan to Prolong President's Term in Kenya

A Kenyan senator affiliated with the ruling coalition has put forward a suggestion to extend the presidential term limit from the current five years to seven years, causing strong reactions within the country.

Samson Cherargei, a senator from Nandi, argues that President William Ruto, who has only been in power for approximately one year, may not have sufficient time to fulfill his campaign promises.

However, this proposal has sparked anger among a portion of Kenyan citizens, with the opposition accusing the government of planning to eliminate presidential term limits altogether.

According to Kenya's constitution, there is a limit of two terms for the presidency, and any alteration to this rule would necessitate a referendum.
