The African Union dismisses the option of military intervention in Niger

The African Union organized discussions aimed at addressing the crisis in Niger, dismissing the option of military intervention.

In a meeting on Monday, the African Union's peace and security council opted against employing force to tackle the situation involving the Nigerien junta.

The organization had previously backed ECOWAS' efforts to address the matter as they deemed appropriate. An AU diplomat mentioned that, despite their commitment to preventing unconstitutional government changes, they decided against supporting a military intervention in Niger due to concerns about potential violence and excessive harm.
