US Treasury's Adeyemo hopes Congress will extend US-Africa program

U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo expressed his optimism that Congress would prolong a trade program that offers duty-free access to the U.S. market for exports from eligible African nations.

He emphasized the strategic advantages of engaging with the region and highlighted the significant opportunities it presents.

Adeyemo expressed his desire for Congress to take action in order to maintain the tools necessary for deepening trade relations with Africa.

He emphasized the importance of Africa, a continent with a rapidly growing young population, not only for economic reasons but also for national security interests.

While he did not specifically address the legislation proposed by Democratic Senator Chris Coons, which suggests extending the program until 2041, Adeyemo's remarks indicated his support for the continuation and expansion of the program.
