Factory Worker's Body Found Eight Days After Fall in Jinja

 

In a somber turn of events, the lifeless body of a factory worker was uncovered in the Ground Hopper Raw Material Production House of a steel factory, a shocking eight days after the fatal fall.

The morbid discovery was facilitated by fellow factory workers who initially stumbled upon and identified the victim's helmet. Kiira Police region spokesperson, James Mubi, disclosed that the unfortunate incident transpired on November 20 when 35-year-old Amir Musobya plunged to his death into the 10-15 feet deep Ground Hopper Raw Material Production House.

Despite the accident occurring on the aforementioned day, Musobya's absence went unnoticed until November 28 when a colleague recognized his helmet. This prompted factory management to report the incident to Jinja Police.

The tragic episode, which unfolded at Abyssinia Iron and Steel Uganda Ltd, has sent shockwaves through the residents of Jinja City South Division.

Upon receiving the report, the police swiftly responded, documented the scene, and confirmed Musobya's untimely demise. Mubi revealed that preliminary findings indicate the victim was working the day-shift program under supervision.

"The team of technical police officers visited the scene of the crime, documented and retrieved exhibits, and recorded statements from management and employees," Mubi conveyed to New Vision Online on Wednesday.

He added that a postmortem is pending at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital as investigations persist in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In the aftermath of this tragic event, Kiira region Police are advocating for the installation of CCTV cameras in factories. This call comes as authorities aim to bolster surveillance in crucial areas within manufacturing sites.

Mubi underscored the necessity for enhanced employee monitoring and advised factory authorities to remain vigilant about their staff's movements, promptly reporting any missing persons to police stations. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of comprehensive safety measures and vigilant oversight in industrial settings.
