DR Congo Ruling Coalition endorses Tshisekedi For December Vote

Democratic Republic of Congo's President Felix Antoine Tshisekedi has received the official endorsement of his ruling political coalition, the Sacred Union, to run as a candidate in the upcoming presidential election on December 20.

Despite facing numerous challenges during his tenure, including economic difficulties, the COVID-19 pandemic, Ebola outbreaks, and ongoing insecurity, particularly in the eastern region, where the M23 rebel group has gained control of significant territories, Tshisekedi has gained the unanimous support of the coalition.

The Sacred Union comprises influential figures such as Defence Minister Jean Pierre Bemba and Economy Minister Vital Kamerhe.

Tshisekedi, who is the son of the popular opposition leader Etienne Tshisekedi, has pledged to combat corruption and authoritarianism, dismissing allegations from human rights organizations and critics that he has not fulfilled his promises.
