A powerful Mediterranean storm struck eastern Libya on September 10th and 11th, causing widespread destruction of property and loss of lives.
At least 150 people were killed, and many more are still missing, including seven members of the Libyan National Army. The storm damaged homes, roads, and infrastructure, with witnesses reporting severe flooding and destruction in several cities.
The government has declared a state of emergency, shutting down schools, stores, and imposing a curfew. The storm also forced the closure of four major oil ports, Ras Lanuf, Zueitina, Brega, and Es Sidra, for three days. The town of Bayda was particularly affected, with its mayor appealing for international aid. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing.
