Initially accused of illegal firearm possession, the prosecution has withdrawn that charge and instead pressed 20 new counts against him at the Federal High Court of Abuja.
Emefiele had previously pleaded "not guilty" to the firearm possession charges in July, and despite objections from the attorney general's office, he was granted bail. The trial, originally set to begin in November, was adjourned after his rearrest.
