Somalia has issued a directive to prohibit the use of TikTok, Telegram, and 1XBET, citing concerns that these platforms are being exploited by "terrorist groups and entities promoting immoral content" to share explicit materials and deceive society.
The government has set a deadline of 24 August for internet service providers to enforce this ban, under the risk of facing unspecified legal consequences.
A recent conference in Mogadishu underscored the adverse effects of these online platforms on youth, even leading to fatalities in some cases.
