An individual from Florida has won the third-largest lottery prize in the history of the US. This Mega Millions jackpot of $1.58 billion ended a dry spell of almost four months without a winner.
This victory on Tuesday night was a big deal since there hadn't been a winner in the last 31 draws since April 18th. Mega Millions jackpots are quite rare, with odds of only one in 302.6 million.
The winner can choose to receive the full amount in yearly payments spread over 30 years, but most people prefer the lump-sum option. The current lump-sum prize is estimated to be a substantial $783.3 million.
