Niger President Held Hostage By Rebels — reports


The army has put forward an ultimatum to the renegade forces after they initially refused to release him, according to France-Presse.

Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum had earlier tweeted that some of his presidential guard had turned against him in an "anti-Republican demonstration" after surround his residence in the capital city of Niamey.

A presidential aide cited by The Associated Press claimed that the president and his wife are inside the residence and that negotiations had begun earlier on Wednesday.
