A federal judge has thrown out Donald Trump's $475 million "big lie" defamation lawsuit against CNN. In it, the former president claimed thatthe network's description of his election fraud, "big lie" connected him to Adolf Hitler.
In a decision late on Friday night, U.S. Judge Raag Singhal, who was named by Trump in 2019, said CNN's words were just opinions, not reality, and in this way couldn't be the subject of a maligning guarantee.[Reuters]
"CNN's statements, were not, as a matter of law, defamatory," Singhal wrote in a federal courtroom in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, near Trump's residence at his Mar-a-Lago resort.
