Police Arrests GISO Over theft of Magistrate's Computer

In Kaberamaido District, police have initiated a theft case against Simon Edwongu, a Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) for Bululu sub-county in Kalaki District, and Emmanuel Osege, a court clerk. They are accused of stealing a computer from the magistrate's office on Tuesday night.

According to Kaberamaido District Police Commander SP David Otabong, the arrests were made after a police dog tracked the scent to the suspects' locations. The theft was discovered by court secretaries who noticed the missing computer and alerted the authorities, prompting the police to deploy the dog to the crime scene.

The suspects face charges of theft of government property, with case file CRB 163/2024 pending approval by the Resident State Attorney. During the search of their homes, investigators found some court files, though the motive behind the theft remains unclear.

This incident isn't the first for Osege, who was previously arrested in 2008 for allegedly accepting a Shs3m bribe related to a land case in Okile sub-county. Despite being dismissed, he rejoined the service.

This case follows another incident earlier this year when court clerk Alex Eluke was arrested for stealing court exhibits. The police are now investigating the underlying reasons for the recurring thefts within the court system.
