Children File Case Against Mother for Marrying new man in their deceased father's house

Three children aged between 11 and 13 surprised authorities in Kayunga District on Monday by filing a case against their mother. They accused her of evicting them from their home in February after she remarried.

The boys, appearing before district probation officer Collins Kafeero, accused their mother, Hadja Nabutono, 43, of mistreatment. Their late father, Sepiriano Omoding, a traditional healer who died in 2017, had left behind a family home and 15 acres of land.

Although five of the eight children are now adults and have moved out, the younger three were reportedly forced to leave and live with their grandfather in Kumi District. They claimed they were promised continued education but were instead made to work.

Local chairperson Annet Awinjo confirmed that Nabutono had expelled her children and was living with her new husband in their father’s home. The children managed to return to Kayunga and filed a complaint, seeking to have their stepfather removed and their education supported.

Kafeero assured the children that they would receive justice and promised to take legal action against Nabutono and her new husband.
