New Details Emerge, UPDF says Brig Gen Stephen Kiggundu died of Electrocution

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced that Brigadier General Stephen Kiggundu, the Deputy Commander of the Air Force, met his demise due to electrocution.

Brig Gen Kiggundu was last seen in a public gathering on Thursday, March 28, during the handover ceremony from Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi to first son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba at the fourth division headquarters in Gulu.

His passing occurred on the evening of Sunday, March 31, in the bathroom of his official residence in Entebbe.

Initially, it was believed that Brig Gen Kiggundu had succumbed to injuries from a fall in the bathroom. However, according to UPDF spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulaigye, it has been revealed that he was electrocuted while bathing.

Brig Gen Kulaigye stated, "What we gathered from his household is that he was electrocuted while taking a bath. That’s the information we have. The incident occurred in the evening, presumably after he had finished exercising and was about to shower."

This information was provided by Brig Gen Kiggundu’s family regarding the cause of his death.

The UPDF is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the electrocution, which resulted in the loss of an experienced pilot who was the first Ugandan to fly the Sukhoi, a fighter jet manufactured in Russia. Will the investigation reveal any unexpected developments?
