Mbale Businessman Shot Dead

 In a heart-wrenching incident along the Amudat – Katabok road, a prominent businessman from Mbale, Umaru Binyota, along with three other residents, lost their lives in a fatal shooting. The incident occurred on February 4, 2024, around 3:30 pm, in Ankukunyo village, Amudat parish.

The victims, identified as Umaru Binyota, Umaru Watime, Aramathan Boy, and Abasi Mubajje, were travelling in a grey Toyota Harrier with the registration number UBP 601Q. The lifeless bodies of Binyota, Aramathan, and Abasi were discovered outside the vehicle, bearing multiple gunshot wounds on various parts of their bodies.

Investigations have revealed the recovery of a projectile from the car, along with six cartridges inside and seven cartridges outside, totaling 13. Despite efforts by the K9 unit, tracking the assailant proved challenging, and the trail was lost after a distance of 1km.

Various items were recovered from the crime scene, including five mobile phones (two smartphones and three Itel small phones) and documents indicating cash calculations. The Joint Security Task Team is actively working to swiftly identify, apprehend, and bring justice to those responsible for this tragic incident.
