CCTV Footage Shows Gunman Shooting at Pastor Bugingo's Car

The Uganda Police Force has acquired crucial CCTV footage revealing the identity of the gunman responsible for the January 2 attack on Pastor Aloysius Bugingo's vehicle in Namungoona, a Kampala suburb, resulting in the tragic death of his bodyguard, Richard Muhumuza.

According to the footage, an individual clad in a black jacket and white shoes is seen utilizing a pistol to open fire at Bugingo's car, evidently under the assumption that the pastor, as the boss, occupied the co-driver's seat.

A reliable source, choosing anonymity to safeguard ongoing investigations, stated, “The CCTV footage captured the lone gunman in action. After firing several bullets, the gunman quickly hid his pistol before fleeing from the crime scene.”

The footage also depicts the gunman vanishing into the darkness as bystanders scattered to evade the gunfire. Despite efforts to identify the killer, a senior official noted that the footage is "not clear enough, a bit grainy, and of low quality," prompting the announcement of a Shs 20 million bounty on Monday for any information leading to the arrest of the gunman and the recovery of the weapon, without the release of the suspect's photo.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga affirmed that a dedicated team at the Special Investigations Division is meticulously working on the case, collecting witness statements, reports, CCTV footage, and securing forensic and ballistic reports for evaluation.

Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Senior Presidential Advisor in Charge of Special Operations, urged law enforcement agencies to swiftly investigate and bring the criminals to justice. He raised questions about the identity of the perpetrators, emphasizing, “Who are these criminals? Is it the ADF or some other shadowy group? We need answers to these questions.”
