BREAKING! MP Mama Cecilia Ogwal Is Dead

Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal, the influential Member of Parliament representing the Dokolo District Women’s Constituency and former Miss Uganda, has passed away at the age of 77.

Mama Cecilia Ogwal succumbed to cancer at a hospital in India on Thursday morning, as confirmed by close family members who spoke on condition of anonymity due to privacy concerns.

Mama Cecilia Ogwal served as a dedicated member of the parliamentary Committee of Physical Infrastructure, overseeing policy matters related to Lands, Housing, Urban development, Works and Transport, and Physical Planning. Born on 12 June 1946, she had an extensive career as a defence contractor and management consultant, consistently representing Uganda's legislature since 1996.

In addition to her political contributions, Ogwal achieved recognition at an early age. In 1969, at 23, she secured victory in the prestigious “Miss Uganda” contest. Born in Dokolo District, Northern Uganda, on 12 June 1946, Ogwal received her education in local schools in Uganda.

Her academic journey led her to the University of East Africa in Nairobi (now known as the University of Nairobi) in 1967, where, at the age of 21, she pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree.

Cecilia Ogwal's legacy encompasses both her achievements in beauty pageants and her longstanding dedication to public service.
