Tragedy Strikes in Makindye as Perimeter Wall Collapse Claims Five Lives

 


A devastating incident occurred in Ndejje-Kanyanya, Makindye Sabagabo, resulting in the tragic loss of at least five lives as a perimeter wall collapsed on rental rooms during the early hours of the morning.

The police reported that the incident unfolded around 3 am when the perimeter wall of Good Luck Petrol Station collapsed, engulfing the rented properties owned by Nalumansi Proscovia.

The victims have been identified as Phiona Nabulumba, Nabunywa Geofrey, Moja Fuuku, three-year-old Liana, and Doreen. Additionally, Mukisa Gladys and Sadat sustained severe injuries and are currently undergoing medical treatment at different hospitals.

"The rescue team, assisted by an excavator, is diligently working to confirm if there are additional individuals trapped under the rubble," stated the police.

Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation by Katwe Police suggest that heavy rainfall weakened the perimeter wall of the petrol station, leading to its catastrophic collapse onto the adjacent rental properties. The police have launched a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the root cause of the tragic incident.

The local community is grappling with shock and grief as the aftermath of the wall collapse has left families shattered and the community mourning the loss of their neighbors. Authorities are urging residents in the vicinity to exercise caution and stay clear of the affected area to facilitate the ongoing rescue efforts.
