BREAKING! Nyombi Thembo Appointed New UCC Executive Director

Nyombi Thembo has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC). The announcement was made following a decision by the UCC Board and has garnered attention as Thembo steps into this key leadership position.

Nyombi Thembo, an experienced professional with a background in law and public service, brings a wealth of expertise to the role. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to steer the UCC through the evolving landscape of the telecommunications and broadcasting industries.

The UCC plays a pivotal role in regulating and promoting the development of communication services in Uganda, making the position of Executive Director crucial in shaping the nation's communication policies and practices.

Thembo's extensive experience in both legal and public administration is expected to contribute to the UCC's efforts to ensure effective communication services, uphold industry standards, and protect the interests of consumers.

Nyombi was elected to the Ugandan Parliament in 2001, representing his home constituency of Kassanda County South in Mubende District (2001-2015).

He has also held a number of posts in the Ugandan Cabinet: State Minister for primary education in the Ministry of Education and Sports (2001-2009), State Minister for Luwero Triangle in the Office of the Prime Minister (2009- 2011) and then as State Minister for Information and Communications Technology (2011-15).

Officials close to the President say Nyombi started lobbying the State House for the position of UCC ED even during his time as State Minister of ICT.

He replaces Eng Irene Ssewankambo who has been acting ED after Eng Fred Otunnu stepped down in 2020.
