Kenya Bans non-essential travel for public officials

Kenya's government has implemented a ban on non-essential travel for public officials in order to reduce expenses.

The Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, stated that this ban applies to trips abroad for purposes such as benchmarking, study, training, and research.

Conferences are also considered non-essential and fall under this restriction. Instead, officials are encouraged to participate in these events virtually or request that diplomatic representatives in the host countries attend on their behalf.

Additionally, Koskei has limited the size of delegations for ministers and governors to three individuals and established time limits of seven days per trip and 45 days per year for official travel outside the country. This decision aims to curb spending and promote more efficient use of resources.
