CNOOC Uganda can resume work at Kingfisher oil Project - Regulator

The regulator has announced that CNOOC Uganda, a subsidiary of CNOOC, can recommence operations at the Kingfisher oil project area.

This decision comes after the operator made the necessary safety improvements, following a temporary suspension of work due to a fatal incident at the site.

The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) expressed its satisfaction with the measures implemented by CNOOC Uganda during the suspension period.

The drilling of oil wells for commercial production began in January, marking a significant milestone for Uganda, which has experienced considerable delays in its oil production endeavors.

The country's other oilfield, Tilenga, is managed by TotalEnergies, a French company.

Uganda aims to achieve its first oil output in 2025 and has plans to reach a peak production level of approximately 230,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

This development signifies a positive step forward for Uganda's oil industry.
