7 killed in  bus-truck collision

Seven individuals lost their lives in a tragic collision between a Global Bus Company bus and a Fuso Truck in Isingiro District on a Friday evening.

 The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 pm near Kyeirumba trading center along the Isingiro-Mbarara road. The bus was en route to Kikagate in Isingiro from Mbarara, while the truck was heading to Mbarara City.

According to Ms. Ritah Kiyuba, the Officer in-charge of Traffic in Isingiro District, the accident resulted from excessive speeding. The Fuso Truck driver was speeding and attempting to navigate a sharp corner when he lost control, leading to the collision with the bus.

Tragically, all seven victims were young men aged between 20 and 30 years who were on top of the Fuso Truck. They lost their lives instantly, while the bus passengers sustained injuries.

The survivors received medical treatment at various healthcare facilities, and the deceased were transported to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examinations.

An eyewitness, Mr. James Katureebe, stated that the Fuso Truck driver was speeding downhill and failed to negotiate a corner, resulting in the accident.

The police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
