Two individuals, including a lawyer and an opposition politician, have been detained by Tanzanian authorities.
They are being charged with incitement and alleged plotting to orchestrate widespread protests with the goal of toppling the current government.
The arrests of lawyer Boniface Anyasile Mwabukusi and politician Mpaluka Nyagali took place on Saturday.
The Tanzanian police chief released a statement on Friday, revealing that he is responding to a group's plan to stage demonstrations across the nation aimed at ousting President Samia Suluhu Hassan's government prior to 2025.
