The court upholds a 25-year prison term for a man who was imprisoned for sexually abusing his daughter.

The Court of Appeal in Mbarara has upheld a 25-year prison sentence for a man, Atanazio Katiti, who was initially convicted of sëxually assaulting his own daughter.

In 2013, he was found guilty by the Mbarara High Court after his daughter reported multiple instances of abuse that occurred when her mother was absent.

Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Katiti had repeatedly assaulted his daughter starting in 2005. He was arrested and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Despite his appeal, a panel of three Court of Appeal judges determined that the punishment was appropriate, given the severity of his actions.

They emphasized that his conduct showed a complete lack of respect for his vulnerable child and that his actions were particularly heinous due to the family setting in which they occurred.

The judges underscored the importance of sending a clear message that relatives have no right to engage in such behavior with their children. Therefore, the 25-year sentence was upheld, and the appeal was rejected.
