The leader of Niger's military government, General Abdourahmane Tchiani, announced that the country will shift back to civilian rule within three years.
Tchiani revealed no specific details about the plan but mentioned that the transition principles will be determined within a month during a dialogue hosted by the junta. Various political parties will present their transition visions.
Tchiani assured that the military does not intend to retain power and emphasized the readiness of the new military government for dialogue as long as the interests of the Nigerien people are considered.
