The municipal government reported that a fire in South Africa's central business district, resulted in the death of 73 individuals and injured 52 others.
The city administration stated that search and rescue operations were underway. Johannesburg authorities are uncertain about the cause of the fire that engulfed the five-storey building located in the city center.
Johannesburg emergency services in an update said injured people have been "transported to various healthcare facilities for further medical care".
The building in the Johannesburg, Marshalltown neighbourhood was being used as ‘informal’ housing for about 200 homeless people according to some sources.
