A man from Masaka killed his girlfriend and then hung himself, prompting an investigation by the local police.
The man, Godfrey Ssekiranda, 27, was upset that his girlfriend, Shakira Nalutaaya, 26, couldn't manage a mobile money business he had set up for her in Kampala. He had invested over Shs2m from selling his land into the business.
Ssekiranda confessed to the murder in a suicide note found on his body, and the note also revealed that he had locked Nalutaaya's body in their rented room.
The police spokesperson condemned the tragedy, suggesting that couples should seek help from counselors, elders, or authorities when facing issues instead of resorting to such actions. The bodies were taken for postmortem as investigations continue.
