A 33-year-old man, Atukwatse Lenato, also known as Ronald, has been arrested by the police in Rukungiri District for allegedly killing his 61-year-old father, Byebiroha Nesiforo.
The incident occurred on August 19, 2023, around 11:00 PM at their residence in Karuhara cell, Ndago parish, Nyarushanje sub county, Rukungiri district. Lenato reportedly fatally assaulted his father using a blunt object.
The father, the son, and the deceased's wife, Kitaragabirwe Beatrice, lived together in the same house. Confrontations between Lenato and his father had escalated due to Lenato returning home late at night and entering the house forcefully.
On the day of the incident, Kitaragabirwe Beatrice left the house to go to church for prayers, and when she returned the next day, she found her husband dead in a pool of blood. Lenato was not present, but he was detained by local residents when he returned home.
The police spokesperson confirmed the incident, and the suspect was held in custody while the body was sent for postmortem analysis.
