Fatal Accident in Manafwa leaves 1 dead, scores injured

 



A tragic incident occurred on August 8th, 2023, at 10:00 pm at Kufu on the Manafwa-Mbale Road in Manafwa District, involving a Tata Lorry with the license plate UBJ 994J, owned by Bukusu Corporative Enterprise Ltd.


According to reports, the driver of the Tata Lorry, Mr. Godmas Mamai, was transporting students from Nakhupa Primary School. While traveling at a high speed, the vehicle lost control, overturned, and resulted in the unfortunate death of a 16-year-old student named Naminayi Thomas. In addition, 117 others were injured in the incident.


The injured individuals have been taken to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment, and the body of the deceased has also been transported to the same hospital for a postmortem examination. The involved vehicle has been taken to Manafwa Police Station for further examination. Unfortunately, the driver, Mr. Godmas Mamai, is currently evading authorities.


Initial findings suggest that the accident was likely caused by reckless speeding. This incident underscores the importance of following safety regulations and guidelines, as trucks are not intended for passenger transportation.
