Benin-Niger Border Faces Truck Backlog due to Coup Fallout

Over a hundred trucks destined for Niger are currently stuck at the border town of Malanville, which lies between Benin and Niger, as a result of the recent coup.

The blockade has persisted for more than a week, prompted by Benin's decision to shut its border with Niger in compliance with one of the measures enforced by the ECOWAS. Transporters in the border region are expressing their hardships.

"Being parked in this manner leads to daily expiration of insurance coverage and technical inspections, not to mention dwindling paperwork. Let's not even discuss the scarcity of food available here. How can one sustain themselves for two weeks?" drivers lament.
