Israel Presses On With Controversial Judicial Reform

Amid mounting opposition from the military and anticipated mass protests, Israel's governing coalition remained steadfast in its pursuit of an ambitious judicial reform plan on Monday.

A parliamentary committee was crafting a bill to curtail judicial oversight over certain government decisions. This move has drawn increasing criticism from reservists in elite military units such as the air force and cyberwarfare. Despite the growing discontent, the coalition pressed ahead with its controversial agenda.

In response to the legislation, which is expected to go before a final parliamentary vote early next week, a significant protest movement will stage a “day of disruption” on Tuesday.
